How to Become a Better Singer
Prayer is the act of communication between man and God. The bible says, if we are in need of need anything, we should ask the Almighty God, for he is our provider. Prayer is one of the most important elements in the world of music.
Musicians have to always pray before and after practice.
Practice singing daily.
Your voice is a muscle and it needs to be exercised. The more you sing, the stronger your voice becomes.
Also, singing along to your favorite songs for practice. Keep in mind though that you may not have the same voice as your favorite singers. You won’t become a better singer by mimicking other singers only. Sing in your own voice.
When you exercise daily, it expands the upper and lower limits of your vocal range over time. Remember, everyone has a natural range.
Always keep your voice healthy
Certain lifestyles keep the voice in a better condition. Musicians normally sound bad when they are dehydrated. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. Avoid the intake of drink alcohol or caffeine before you sing because these substances dehydrate you.
Foods like yogurt, cheese, and ice cream cause excess mucus to form in the throat, which makes singing difficult.
Additionally, salty and spicy foods should be ignored, because these foods can cause irritation in your throat.
Foods that may cause acid reflux like heavy or spicy foods can also make breathing harder and irritate your vocal chords. You also want to avoid sugary drinks as well.
Learn proper singing posture.
Most research suggests standing rather than sitting to achieve the best sound. Sitting collapses your muscles and can hinder your ability to get a proper breath.
Keep your head up and in line with your shoulders. Picture your spine like a straight line extending through the crown of your head.
Let your jaw drop and keep your tongue relaxed toward the front of your mouth. Relax your shoulders.
Lift the roof of your mouth in the back as if you were going to yawn. This opens up the throat and allows more air to flow through.
If you are tensing up when standing with the right posture, move so that your back, shoulders, and head are resting against a wall.
Perform breathing exercises daily
Breath control is one of the most important elements in the singing. In order to control your voice you have to put out exactly the amount of breath you need for the sound you want.
You should practice taking deep breaths into your belly every single day.
This alone can significantly improve your voice in the long-run. You can do this either standing up or laying down. Again, be sure your belly is rising every time you take a deep breath.
